  • MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER

Announced by OC Communication Dept on Sep 21 2017

MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER
Needed Now • Adventist Health Hospice

Needed Now-Throughout the Portland Area Adventist Health Hospice patients need your gift of time as a volunteer! There is no experience needed to be a Patient Companion Volunteer--just a compassionate heart for people and the desire to make a patient’s remaining days as fulfilling as possible. It is about the gift of your presence and spending just a little of your time to sit with those who are facing the end of their lives. Sometimes, it’s just to talk or read to them or share stories and laughter...at other times...you could help record a life history, play music, cards or board games with them, and even share a hobby with them. It’s as individual as you are. Help me match you with a waiting need. Caregivers need the blessing of your time to take care of themselves. This allows them to return “recharged” to tend to their loved one. Hospice patients sometimes have no family and can be greatly moved by your presence. These are momentous gifts. And there are numerous options in how you can help. Volunteers work out in the field - in patient’s homes, adult care homes, or nursing homes, wherever a patient might call home. The hours are flexible, whether you can commit a few hours a week, or just a few hours a month. We provide thorough training. If you feel called, please contact the Adventist Health Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at 503-251-6192, ext. 56420 or by email at murphydl@ah.org.

Our camp is devoted to inspire and train attendees to fall in love with studying their Bibles and spending time in meaningful prayer with the Lord. Born out of frustration in not being able to attend a 4 month Bible study training course, a group of friends and one pastor hatched a plan to design a camp that would focus on Bible study training & prayer over the course of an extended weekend. The results have been a tremendous blessing over the last 8 years!
